“In history there’s never been a civilization ever in history that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing, and has survived. There isn’t one single civilization that has survived that openly embraced homosexuality. So you say, ‘what’s going to happen to America?’ Well if history is any guide, the same thing’s going to happen to us.”—
Pat Robertson, reminding us again that teh gayz are gonna destroy ‘mericuh.
Same as it ever was, eh Pat? How many years have you been making this claim? Two things: First, throughout history, every civilization fails. See what I did there? No civilization will continue indefinitely. Second, Rome embraced Christianity approximately 150 years before it fell. So, Pat, by your logic Christianity is just as likely to have caused the fall of Rome.
“Gibbs became pregnant aged 15, but lost the baby in December 2006 in a stillbirth when she was 36 weeks into the pregnancy. When prosecutors discovered that she had a cocaine habit - though there is no evidence that drug abuse had anything to do with the baby’s death - they charged her with the “depraved-heart murder” of her child, which carries a mandatory life sentence. Gibbs is the first woman in Mississippi to be charged with murder relating to the loss of her unborn baby. But her case is by no means isolated. Across the US more and more prosecutions are being brought that seek to turn pregnant women into criminals.”—
and this is what we see as a *criminal*—as a threat to society. In the olden days, this was a *child* that needed some serious fucking help and more than likely protection.
we prosecute people for feeding the homeless, we criminalize little girls that need fucking help, we deport workers whose bodies are falling apart, we call starving people “protecting our right to exist” and feeding those people terrorism…
“The aim of the corporate state is not to feed, clothe or house the masses but to shift all economic, social and political power and wealth into the hands of the tiny corporate elite. It is to create a world where the heads of corporations make $900,000 an hour and four-job families struggle to survive. The corporate elite achieves its aims of greater and greater profit by weakening and dismantling government agencies and taking over or destroying public institutions. Charter schools, mercenary armies, a for-profit health insurance industry and outsourcing every facet of government work, from clerical tasks to intelligence, feed the corporate beast at our expense. The decimation of labour unions, the twisting of education into mindless vocational training and the slashing of social services leave us ever more enslaved to the whims of corporations. The intrusion of corporations into the public sphere destroys the concept of the common good. It erases the lines between public and private interests. It creates a world that is defined exclusively by naked self-interest.”—Chris Hedges (via azspot)
“I sometimes visualize the ongoing cycle of racism as a moving walkway at the airport. Active racist behavior is equivalent to walking fast on the conveyor belt. The person engaged in active racist behaviour has identified with the ideology of White supremacy and is moving with it. Passive racist behaviour is equivalent to standing still on the walk way. No overt effort is being made, but the conveyor belt moves the bystanders along to the same destination as those who are actively walking. Some of the bystanders may feel the motion of the conveyor belt, see the active racists ahead of them, and choose to turn around, unwilling to go to the same destination as the White supremacists. But unless they are walking actively in the opposite direction at a speed faster than the conveyor belt - unless they are actively antiracist - they will find themselves carried along with the others.”—
Yes, brilliant analogy. It can be applied to any systematic oppression, the status quo encourages you to go along for the ride. Keeping people down (or letting others keep them down) is easy, fixing the system, working against it, that requires true effort.
“The point of public relations slogans like “Support our troops” is that they don’t mean anything… That’s the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody’s going to be against, and everybody’s going to be for.Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn’t mean anything. Its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something: Do you support our policy? That’s the one you’re not allowed to talk about.”—
“Late last night, lawmakers in Albany voted to make New York the largest state in America to allow same-sex marriage. This is in line with a broader trend. A new Gallup poll shows that a stunning two-thirds of Americans would support a gay presidential candidate. The tides are turning, and yet President Obama remains skittish on the issue. It’s time, President Obama. We all know you support same-sex marriage; now is the time for you to come out and say it.”—Opinion columnist Jessica Valenti, in “Obama must switch teams,” The Daily (via thedailyfeed)
No one disputes that an on-duty Irvine police officer got an erection and ejaculated on a motorist during an early-morning traffic stop in Laguna Beach. The female driver reported it, DNA testing confirmed it and officer David Alex Park finally admitted it.
When the case went to trial, however, defense attorney Al Stokke argued that Park wasn’t responsible for making sticky all over the woman’s sweater. He insisted that she made the married patrolman make the mess—after all, she was on her way home from work as a dancer at Captain Cream Cabaret.
“She got what she wanted,” said Stokke. “She’s an overtly sexual person.”

This is enraging…. and people claim rape culture doesn’t exist.
I just don’t understand this verdict. How the hell can that jury think that squirting bodily fluids on another person without their consent is at all OK?
“But she’s a stripper blah blah victim-blaming blah.”
By that logic, it should be legal to throw fecal matter at sanitation workers. Or to throw blood and vomit at doctors and nurses. Being a sex worker doesn’t give everyone else the right to have sexual contact with you.
“She got what she wanted”
Awful. Just awful. Victim-blaming at its finest. I’m pretty sure you would get thrown the FUCK out of a strip club if you tapped a dancer in the shoulder and then jizzed on her. Unacceptable behavior under any circumstances.
“A jury of one woman and 11 men—many white and in their 50s or 60s—agreed with Stokke. On Feb. 2, after a half-day of deliberations, they found Park not guilty of three felony charges that he’d used his badge to win sexual favors during the December 2004 traffic stop.”
“She didn’t adapt to the food.” Are you fucking kidding me? You adopted her, when she was four months old. She’s 7 now. This is a minor detail. But seriously. WHAT THE FUCK? What kind of food was she adapted to at 4 months? Oh yeah, PROBABLY MILK LIKE EVERY BABY.
What is wrong with people??
I was going to say that lactose intolerance is incredibly common in some parts of Asia, so it could actually be that the girl is lactose intolerant and that’s what doesn’t “fit in”, because, you know, no one of European descent was ever lactose intolerant, so it’s a completely unknown problem. /sarcasm
Then I read the post linked and the news article linked in that post.
They’re living in Hong Kong. It’s not like there’s huge culture of milk consumption there (so I’ve been told by people who have lived there). So that’s not it. Actually reading the article it says that it’s their culture she cannot adapt to. Food is a byline of that.
She was adopted at 3-4 months of age. Do tell me exactly what culture you bring with you at that age that makes it impossible to adapt to another. Please. Also, if you’ve lived several years from infancy with these people’s culture and you’re still not adapted to it, then someone’s not raising you right.
Oh yeah, and apparently this is very traumatic for the shitty parents. The ex-adoptive mother is in therapy. Won’t somebody think of the poor rich diplomat’s wife whose life in luxury is now temporarily troubled by her adopted child being ‘faulty’? ARGLEBARGLE!
And the girl does not have residency in the Netherlands, because they’ve been living most of her life in Hong Kong. South Korea doesn’t accept returns of unwanted adoptees and though there is a Korean community in Hong Kong that has announced that they will attempt to help the girl, this girl doesn’t actually speak Korean.
Oh my goodness, the utter selfishness and outrageous callousness of these people… I do not understand how anyone can do this.
Good thing, though, that several families have stepped forward and offered to adopt or foster the girl, but jebus suffering fuck what kind of trauma will this child have?
Thanks Jem for saying everything I wanted to but didn’t have the spoons to.
people are just terrible at times. most of the time.
tbqh they should be arrested or barred from further international adoptions. or just slapped upside the head.
There have been case studies of claims made. Following a Kathryn Kuhlman 1967 fellowship in Philadelphia, Dr. William A. Nolen conducted a case study of 23 people who claimed to have been cured during her services. Nolen’s long-term follow-ups concluded there were no cures in those cases.Furthermore, “one woman who was said to have been cured of spinal cancer threw away her brace and ran across the stage at Kuhlman’s command; her spine collapsed the next day, according to Nolen, and she died four months later.” In 1976, Kuhlman died in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following open-heart surgery.
‘As the mainstream media continues to be obsessed with Anthony Weiner and his bizarre adventures on Twitter, much more serious events are happening around the world that are getting very little attention. In America today, if the mainstream media does not cover something it is almost as if it never happened. Right now, the worst nuclear disaster in human history continues to unfold in Japan , U.S. nuclear facilities are being threatened by flood waters, the U.S. military is bombing Yemen, gigantic cracks in the earth are appearing all over the globe and the largest wildfire in Arizona history is causing immense devastation. But Anthony Weiner, Bristol Palin and Miss USA are what the mainstream media want to tell us about and most Americans are buying it.
In times like these, it is more important than ever to think for ourselves. The corporate-owned mainstream media is not interested in looking out for us. Rather, they are going to tell us whatever fits with the agenda that their owners are pushing.
That is why more Americans than ever are turning to the alternative media. Americans are hungry for the truth, and they know that the amount of truth that they get from the mainstream media continues to decline.
The following are 12 things that the mainstream media is being strangely quiet about right now….’
Just reblog this straight as a link, so that it doesn’t mess up (just a heads up)
#1 The crisis at the Fort Calhoun nuclear facility in Nebraska has received almost no attention in the national mainstream media.
#2 Most Americans are aware that the U.S. is involved in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. However, the truth is that the U.S. military is also regularly bombing Yemen and parts of Pakistan.
#3 The crisis at Fukushima continues to get worse. Arnold Gundersen said: “Fukushima is the biggest industrial catastrophe in the history of mankind”
#4 Members of Congress continue to mention Christians as a threat to national security.
#5 China’s eastern province of Zhejiang has experienced that worst flooding that it has seen in 55 years.
#6 Thanks to the Dodd-Frank Act, over the counter trading of gold and silver is going to be illegal starting on July 15th.
#7 All over the world, huge cracks are appearing for no discernible reason.
#8 According to U.S. Forest Service officials, the largest wildfire in Arizona state history has now covered more than 500,000 acres.
#9 There are reports that North Korea has tested a “super EMP weapon” which would be capable of taking out most of the U.S. power grid in a single shot.
#10 All over the United States, “active shooter drills” are being conducted in our public schools. Often, most of the students are not told that these drills are fake.
#11 NASA has just launched a “major” preparedness initiative for all NASA personnel. NASA’s own website
I feel like talking about sexism, and “reverse sexism” deserves a post of its own. Let me begin by saying that generally speaking, there is no such thing as “reverse sexism.” There just isn’t. When one uses the word “sexism,” you’re not just referring to say, a derogatory term for a woman (e.g. “slut”), but rather, sexism exists at a macro level. It describes a system that privileges men (and specific kinds of men) over and at the expense of women (all women generally, while privileging some women over others). A remark or action that we call “sexist” is sexist because it exists within that larger context. If you call me, a man, some slur, let’s say “bastard,” that’s not “reverse sexism” or anything of the sort, because it’s not a manifestation of a larger system that is working against me based on my sex.
I’ve seen a little debate about the economic health of Texas today on Tumblr. Texas is now the 2nd largest state economy in the United States with GDP of $1.2 trillion, and Texas’ real GDP growth outpaced national real GDP growth (Source). I’m not an economist or fluent in economic theory, though I do try to understand it, and thus, have no deep thoughts to share in that regard, so I’ll focus more on the politics of this. With Gov. Rick Perry considering a run for the Republican nomination, this information will benefit him on the trail. Whether or not Gov. Perry can claim responsibility for this growth I will leave to others to debate, but these numbers do give the governor something the other candidates don’t have: an economic success story.
That success was also at the expense of the state’s poor and needy. All of our state programs are completely skrewed *(unless you’re a bussiness or oil executive). We’re 47th in education. 1st in teen pregnancy. In the top 5 in infant mortality rate. Our state debt is HUGE. Our medicaid is basically nonexistent. Our wealth disparity is getting worse by the day. Our middle class has almost disappeared. We have the most minimum wage jobs. I could go on.
So yeah, I guess we win. Hooray, a happy ending for the rich people!
[edit for typos]
as i stated earlier, that is the problem with economic indicators of capitalism. everything seems fine and dandy but you look at the fact that we have more pregnant teenage girls and drop outs than any other state, and the low real estate prices can fuck off.
I’ve found a consistent pattern among those who are discontent.
I would say “Weird”, but a lot of times, normality involves discontent, and even they fall under this.
Patterns of Behavior dictate the way people will act around stimulus
When I use the term Patterns or Patterns of Behavior, what I mean is the specific way that both Normals and Weirds act when something is discomforting. A person who has a phobia of something will avoid it, a person with self-image issues is going to try and avoid mirrors, a person whose leg is strained is going to be trying to stay from physical strain. All of these behaviors are used to cope with certain stresses covering a certain discontentful aspect.
That is to say, a person with body image problems has an entire range of behaviors, a pattern of them, that tend to have one general unified goal.
A person with math difficulty is going to adopt a pattern of behavior to make life easier. Bringing a calculator with them, not thinking of doing any future math-related activities, asking other people to solve the problems, etc.
Now this is important to recognize because these patterns are where Normal and Weird come in. A person who has a body image problems has a general pattern that everyone with that same discomfort will follow (avoiding mirrors), and usually it’s predictable what their reactions to many triggering things is going to be.
People with the same discomfort who don’t have this same pattern are then considered as having a Weird pattern.
This is important to understand because it makes it possible to more easily accommodate the specific needs of every person. If somebody has a certain emotional issue, it is best not to press it and to respect the patterns that they’ve developed to cope with it.
Another useful application is identifying what kinds of problems a person does have. Sometimes it’s obvious (It’s possible to tell, without much effort, that a limping person who is avoiding lifting anything heavy or walking much has a hurt leg) but with many other emotional and mental issues, it isn’t quite so. Compiling a mental list of the kinds of behaviors people can have for a certain issue makes identifying people’s problems so much easier.
The only exception to this definition are the Psychologically Weird, a unique class among weirds because the Pattern is so developed that it takes on a class of its own called a System (will be elaborated on tomorrow).
“I’m a white male who doesn’t find women of color attractive. I’ve examined my gut feelings as well as my objective observations with regard to this, and I seem to be predisposed to prefer pale skin tones and certain bone structures that are distinctly Caucasoid. Even though I can plainly see beautiful features on women of differing ethnic backgrounds, there’s a subconscious component missing that pushes me to prefer women of genetic makeup similar to my own. Is there any way to determine to what extent this is influenced by social constructs of beauty vs. genetic programming? How can I respectfully distinguish between objective beauty and personal attractiveness without implying any hateful judgments about these women? Is it strange that I can’t help but feel racist for whom I’m attracted to (or not so much)? As an afterthought, do I have a moral or ethical obligation to consciously appreciate the beauty of women of color in order to limit such outside interference?”
Your preference for white women is probably about 95% based on social constructs of beauty. It’s a vicious cycle: we spend our lives being told that white features are the most beautiful, so we’re attracted to white features, so advertisers only use white people since they appeal to us.
I have good news: you probably aren’t a racist. I think the more you give women of color a chance, the more you’ll realize that they can be just as beautiful as white women, if not more so. I wouldn’t say you have a moral or ethical obligation to try and give WOC a chance, but if you could, that’d be nice?
For the most part, I would recommend you not tell women you’re dating — white or otherwise — that you “only find white women attractive.” No one really wants to hear that. Keep it to yourself. Some people argue “oh, I can’t help who I’m attracted to.” OK, but keep in mind that your standard of “attractive” is heavily influenced by a mostly white media that glorifies young, thin, pretty white girls.
You asked if there was a way to differentiate between finding WOC beautiful and being personally attracted to them. Don’t bother making that distinction. If you see a beautiful woman, you don’t have to say “I’d bang her.” Saying “She has beautiful features” or “She’s really pretty” is enough.
Most importantly, if you’re talking about the women you date, give every woman a chance to show you her personality and values and sense of humor and favorite color. Don’t rule them out just because you don’t find them conventionally attractive to you. Our hearts have the incredible capacity to fall in love. Sure, looks are important when you first meet someone, but at the end of the day, you probably want to find someone who you’ll still want to talk to when you’re 80. By that point, skin color doesn’t matter.
